The Audi R8 made its debut for the 2008 model year as Audi's first mass produced
mid-mounted engine sports coupe. The dramatic 2 passenger, R8 combines the
experience gained from Audi's numerous triumphs on the racetrack with an
evolutionary and dramatic design. Consumer and industry approval and admiration
was as widespread as the R8's introduction was thrilling.
Incorporating technology from Audi's Le Mans winning 2003 R8 concept car in a
desire to bring Audi's racing success out to the streets, this high performance
car is propelled by a mid-engine 4.2 liter aluminum V8 engine with direct fuel
injection that delivers an astonishing 420 horsepower. The lightweight aluminum
body R8 is remarkably quick, going easily from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds and
topping out at 187 mph. The remainder of its powertrain consists of your choice
of a 6 speed manual or a smooth and quick operating clutch-less 6 speed manual
R-tronic transmission. In combination with an electromechanical steering system,
electromagnetically controlled fluid filled shock absorbers that adapt to
variations in road surface, and Audi's proprietary Quattro all-wheel drive
system, the R8 provides impeccable driving dynamics and a smooth, quiet ride
barely distinguishable from that of a luxury sedan. On hearing of the pending
introduction of the R8, BMW activated its engineering team to go forth with
plans to introduce their concept, the M10. In the meantime, the closest
competitor to the R8 is the BMW M6, a distant second.
The R8's futuristic design begins with a classically exotic low and wide stance,
and adds exterior dominating trim in the form of distinct blades of carbon fiber
on each side, behind the doors and in front of the rear wheel - that runs
angular from the roof to just above the side air intakes valve to the rocker
panel. The cabin is pushed forward in typical mid engine race car fashion and
designed around a highly functional and luxurious driving enthusiast's cockpit.
Standard equipment includes 19 inch wheels, xenon headlights, a dual function
power and manually operated retractable rear spoiler, LED turn signals and brake
lights, supportive and plush Alcantara suede and premium leather power
adjustable sport seats, 7 speaker CD stereo system, modern aluminum trim accents
and automatic climate control. A Convenience Options Package bundles auto
dimming rear view mirrors, a 6 CD changer, hill hold assist feature, Homelink,
and Bluetooth connectivity and parking sensors.
The Audi R8 is an outstanding sports car with a clearly projected focus on both
performance and daily comfort. With high ratings in just about every performance
related category, standard all wheel drive and a groundbreaking design, the R8
is clearly the best sports car Audi has ever produced for sale on the open
market and a wise choice for selective driving enthusiasts. |
